What is an orphan?
An orphan is a child who doesn't live with his or her parents. Either their parents couldn't keep their child or their parents died, so instead an orphan lives in an orphanage. An orphanage is a place where orphans live. The orphans live with other orphans, so basically it is a child who has no mother or father.
